CHILD & YOUTH SAFETY POLICY

Central Highlands Spin Studio (CHSS) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all children and young people in our care. Every student has the right to feel safe, valued, respected and heard.

This policy applies to:

  • Students

  • Parents & caregivers

  • Coaches, instructors, apprentices and volunteers

  • Any adult present in the studio space

Our Commitment

CHSS commits to:

  • Placing the wellbeing of children and young people first

  • Creating an environment where students feel empowered, supported and confident

  • Maintaining professional boundaries at all times

  • Ensuring trauma-aware and inclusive teaching practices

  • Responding to concerns or complaints seriously and respectfully

Supervision

  • Students are supervised by a studio instructor, apprentice or approved adult at all times while in class.

  • Children must be collected by a parent or caregiver immediately after class unless prior approval is given for independent sign-out.

Safe Touch & Instruction

Physical guidance may sometimes be required to:

  • Support balance

  • Assist alignment

  • Ensure safe form and technique

When physical guidance is used, instructors will:

  • Seek verbal consent (“Is it okay if I help you with this move?”)

  • Use minimal, respectful touch

  • Only touch appropriate areas (shoulders, arms, upper back, hips for alignment)

  • Never use touch to force a movement or stretch

Students may always say “No thank you” and this will be respected.

Communication

We communicate with children and young people in ways that are:

  • Encouraging

  • Calm

  • Non-judgmental

  • Age-appropriate

We do not:

  • Yell

  • Shame

  • Compare students

  • Use language about body weight or appearance

Parents & Caregivers

We encourage supportive involvement and communication.
If concerns arise — talk to us.
We will always work with you, not against you.

Reporting Concerns

If a student ever feels uncomfortable, unsafe, or worried — they are encouraged to tell:

  • Their instructor

  • The studio owner (Mel)

  • Their parent or caregiver

All concerns will be:

  • Treated seriously

  • Handled confidentially

  • Followed up appropriately

Zero Tolerance

We do not tolerate:

  • Bullying

  • Harassment

  • Grooming behaviours

  • Discrimination

  • Any behaviour that compromises the safety of young people

Safety is not negotiable.
